The Internet Telephone starts up, and connects through to the E-TOPHONE data
centre to obtain status and other setup information.
Once the user has entered the phone number, and the destination country is
known, contact is made with the local SIP Proxy/Gateway in the distant region.
The distant gateway then connects to the number that has been requested by
dialling across the public switch telephone network (PSTN).
The Internet Telephone now has a connection to the distant telephone, either
land line or mobile.
Digitised voice passes between the Internet Telephone and the distant
gateway, and analogue voice traffic passes between the gateway and the distant
end telephone.
